Rent, eggs, a used Civic, the college portal. If the story you got is "capitalism broke, so do more of the last ten years," this path asks a ruder question: what did policy do to those prices?
Start smaller so the idea sticks. Garage sale. A cracked phone case is one dollar. Your friend laughs. You buy it. Same object. Two rankings. Nobody needs a bureau to publish the 'true worth' of a cracked case.
